GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – The Michigan Municipal League’s annual Conference obtained an unofficial kickoff Tuesday, Oct. four, 2011, in Grand Rapids in the course of ArtPrize with the Michigan Affiliation of Municipal Lawyers (MAMA) Legislation Program and a number of pre-conference seminars.
For the duration of the MAMA event, the group named Portage City Legal professional Randall L. Brown as President of the group. Brown has been on the Board of Administrators of the Michigan Affiliation of Municipal Attorneys and on the Board of the Michigan Municipal League Authorized Protection Fund since 1999. For the earlier two years Mr. Brown has served as Vice President of the Municipal Lawyers affiliation. He has been lawful counsel for Portage for the previous 26 several years and the city attorney given that 1993. In 2010, Brown was awarded the Portage City Lawyer contract for an additional 5 many years. He is also a member of the Legislative Issues Committee and has been concerned in other committee work working with problems impacting municipalities in Michigan. Brown replaces Ann Arbor Metropolis Lawyer Stephen Postema, who served the final 2 1/2 several years as the MAMA president. Postema was also honored for his time of service with the group.
The MAMA organization Tuesday also awarded Gregory T. Stremers as the receiver of its Distinguished Municipal Legal professional Award for 2011. Stremers currently represents many municipal entities in St. Clair and Sanilac counties, like the towns of Sandusky, Croswell, Brown Metropolis and Marquette, the village of Emmett, and the townships of Lexington and Value. He was nominated for the award by Brown Metropolis Manager Clinton K. Holmes, Croswell Metropolis Manager John Espinosa, and Marlette Metropolis Manager Lou LaPonsie.
MAMA also honored Legal professional Don M. Schmidt, of Counsel at Miller Canfield in its Kalamazoo place of work, with the 2011 William L. Steude Ethics and Civility in Nearby Federal government Award by the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys (MAMA). The William L. Steude Award was established to honor men and women for important and tangible achievement in the discipline of nearby government ethics and civility. Nominees are an official or personnel of a member municipality of the Michigan Municipal League, a member of the Michigan Affiliation of Municipal Attorneys, or connected with neighborhood authorities.
