  1. You want to find high pressure sodium lights. When i used to work in construction, there were lots of these around our jobsite, and i knew a guy who would buy those ones, but i know there are ones made specifically for plant growth as well. I would try hardware stores, or look online for a vendor

  2. From any of those hardware stores around.Better them than electric outlet stores.

  3. for growing any plants indoors theres a few things to know

    color of the light

vegetative growth needs the color to be in the 6500k range

flowering growth needs color in the 2700k range, but also needs a small amount of 6500k light to thrive

from there you have several options regarding lights

many people will tell you metal halide commonly called MH
many people will tell you high pressure sodium commonly called HPS

both of those work great, but are expensive to buy, expensive to run, and they generate a great deal of heat requiring significant ventilation

another option is led lighting, contrary to popular belief led lighting can be REMARKABLE, but highly expensive, with leds, the color spectrum becomes much more complicated then 2700 and 6500, it becomes about blues reds oranges and different versions of each along with many other issues like angles and lumens

    last but not least, fluorescent

this is my personal recommendation, they are the cheapest, you can plug them into any conventional screw in style lamp, and except for leds, are the most efficient, especially heat wise, you will get much less heat from a cfl then an hps or mh

if you are using a very small area you can use the regular 20 or so watt cfls

for larger areas they have larger cfls

my local home improvement store sells 300 watt equivalent cfls that use 68 watts of power for less then 20 dollars

with cfls, the lower the watts, the closer the plant needs to be to the light, so the larger the light, the farther back the plant can be, the larger the space you can grow in

its best to use the largest light you can because the larger the light, the more the light will “penetrate” through to the lower parts of the plant, which is why the plant must be close if you use the small lights

ps. i have noticed vegetative growth needs less watts per sq foot then flowering growth

Simple low cost fluorescent tube light fixtures are cheap and work just fine.

  5. To answer the question you asked, amazon.com
Just enter ‘grow lights’ in the search box. Lowest prices your going to find.
And if it is at all possible, give your plants as much natural sun as you can.
If I were trying to grow on a tighter budget, I would use compact florescents for vegging the plants, and a HPS for flowering. I assure you HPS lights will quickly pay for themselves in both quantity and quality of your medicine.
Remember, it is going to take you a minimum of 10-12 weeks to grow a decent plant, and that is starting from clones. 3 months or more if starting from seed, depending on the variety. So, my advise, get the best you can afford. Think of it this way, in 3 months you can be self-sufficient on your bud with the right skills and the right lights. If not, your paying a dispensery or dealer. Which is more expensive, know what I mean?

For starting from seed, or even the first week with clones, fluorescent tubes are great, really preferred. Just get started, time will be your teacher. But, don’t skimp, you’ll regret it.
Also, just because you have the best lights money can buy, it only mean you’ve got plenty of lumens. Learn how to grow your strain to perfection. That and the best lights you can afford and you will be happily rewarded.
Good luck, and remember you are no longer a ‘drug’ user, you are a patient, right. So, don’t be a drug dealer by selling any extra bud that you grow to anyone who does not possess a card.

  6. Ironically I would recommend an LED light for you to start out with, simply because they’re very easy to use, put out basically zero heat, and are only around 90 watts of electricity which means hardly noticeable on your bill (even though as the other person said you won’t get busted based on your bill).

LED will work, although for a serious grower they aren’t what we’re typically looking for. They produce flowers however they are not the most robust or biggest flowers. For your situation it sounds like it would work out for you at least until you choose to move-up, growing wise.

Bottom-line: if you’re only wanting to grow around 2 plants go with LED. If you want to go with more I would go with a nice fluorescent lighting system.

Major inroads have been made with LED type lights. High pressure sodium lights operate HOT, so ventilation is a major problem. the minimum distance of ten feet can cause a problem, since most ceilings are 8 feet.
